There can be no higher recommendation for a podcast than it selling the focus of it, in a very literal sense in this case. Although the podcast was entirely Coriolis related at the time I started listening, it gave me enough information on the system to make me want to buy Mutant, which I'd been deciding on.I like the laid back approach of Matt and Dave, and them both taking digs at each other as most gaming groups do. They're also very responsive to questions and article suggestions, which obviously helps foster a real sense of community around the podcast. To settle an argument for them though, I'm the best GM!
These two very personable chaps first started chatting about all things Coriolis RPG but have switched to all things mostly, Swedish TTRPGs, especially Free League. They are great together.
The Effekt podcast is an entertaining table top roleplaying game podcasts that focuses on games of Swedish origin. The hosts of the show, Matthew and Dave, are the friendly roleplaying version of Waldorf and Statler with a long history of gaming and friendly banter. Like many middle-aged players, they have played various RPG systems and settings and can draw from that experience. Both have found a strong liking for the excellent games published by Swedish publisher Free League. Each episode, they summarise news in the world of indy games, review a new product, host an interview guest or present a short essay about a specific topic (e.g. rules, setting or rpg concepts). I have been following their podcasts since they still called it the Coriolis Effect and was only focused on one of the games by Free Leagues. Since then, Matt and Dave have honed and developed their podcasting skills and have further introduced me to the fabulous world of Swedish RPGs (Tales from the Loop, Symbaroum, Aliens, Vaesen and Forbidden Lands). This has come with a cost since I have joined the cult of Free League Kickstarters. As an experienced player and GM of similar age, I am enjoying their thoughts on settings, game design and game mastering. I can recommend Effekt podcast to any player or GM who is interested to look beyond the standard D&D fare and is curious about the great world of Swedish game design. I can also advise listeners to join Matt and Dave Discord server as a Paetron. Our bantering hosts have built up a friendly RPG community that discusses games and also do run games for passionate players and Paetrons. Finally, it is worth to listen to their Effekt actual play episodes and get an idea of the various game systems. The bet is still on who of the two is the better GM.I hope this dynamic duo will keep up their entertaining and informative work.
I had stopped playing RPG's many years ago and a chance conversation with a friend lead me firstly to Fria Ligan's Coriolis and then to what was then the Coriolis Effect Podcast. It is fair to say that this podcast brought me back to playing and running RPG's. The content is never disapointing and the actual play sessions are excellent. I think it is fair to say at this point though, that Matthew is the best GM.
EffektI agree ?
Have to admit I'm a fan. The lads extol the virtues of Coriolis and other Free League Publishing games while never losing themselves in it and going too far. Professional delivery, amusing tangential conversations, and full analysis from long term gamers. What's not to like. Subscribe. They have cookies.Should say that I know both Matt and Dave of old, but trust me, if I thought it was crap I'd say so. To their faces. Having put my flamethrower down beside a generator first ...
After years of playing heroic fantasy RPGs I was looking for something else, and then I discovered Free League's wonderful suite of RPGs. Then I went looking for content to support this newfound thirst. I was lucky enough to discover the Effekt podcast, two brits talking about Free League games, but also other games and themes relating to this wonderful hobby.David and Matthew, as they affectionately (?) full-name each other are a friendly, open minded and welcoming duo, who offer an easy listen, tackle interesting topics, speak with interesting people and are very approachable. After one episode discussing a particular idea with a game, I shared an idea I had with Dave, who kindly mentioned it on the podcast - a true community minded endeavour.Highly recommended.
Fun gaming podcast. Matt and Dave produce a talk-radio style gaming program, focusing mostly on Swedish produced role-playing games - especially those by Free League. Typically hour-long episodes are full of gaming news, interviews, tips and tricks, all framed by the casual banter of what are obviously two old friends who grew up gaming together. Worth a listen.
Matthew and David are joined by Tony, Alan and other members of the tabletop rpg family for a regular review of Fria Ligan's Coriolis rpg. The bi-weekly podcast takes us deep into the rich background of the Coriolis setting and discusses a wide range of wonderfully detailed topics. The podcast also frequently provides updates from the wider world of gaming and is an essential companion for any rpg fan. The dynamic duo have also provided a number of wonderfully funny and educational "live play" sessions for Coriolis, Tales From The Loop, and Symbaroum which are a must for anyone interested in running those campaigns. Certainly keep an eye out for more live-play sessions in future. So relax, sit back and let Matthew and David take you through to the core of The Coriolis. Effect.
I love listening to the Effekt Podcast. I've even managed to get on it! The series offers quite a lot of discussion and original content. Their long-lasting friendship makes for great listening between the segments with a bit of banter.
This is a great podcast about all things nerdy :D - how ever the real stars of the show is Dave and Matthew, both informative and funny, while they allso emanates aburt amounts of cozy uncelness, i woud listent eavn if the podcast was about cows, or how to cook spaghetti just becus of the great host's. i can only gife this podcast my warmest rewive
This is one of my favourite Tabletop RPG podcasts. Matthew and Dave combine reviews, game insights and banter into every episode. I have been an avid listener for the last 18 months and it is largely through their enthusiasm for Free League publications that introduced me to the Year Zero system and my addiction to Fria Ligan games - it has cost me a small fortune! You should also check out their Effekt AP Podcast (Actual Plays) as it is also brilliant. Keep up the great work.
I have been listening to Matthew and Dave for about 2 years and love the podcast. It's like listening to your mates talk about RPG's in the pub. They are not afraid to disagree with each other and give honest comments on new developments in the RPG world.
EffektThat’s the spirit we aim for! ? Glad to see its not getting old.
Well, I am going to be honest. I make this, with my friend Dave, and I think it is great. Though we focus on discussion and audio articles about the Coriolis RPG, we also discuss the wider world of gaming, especially Fria Ligan’s other Year Zero Engine games. Between discussion episodes (about every three weeks/every month), we release weekly episodes of our Actual Plays, which cover a variety of games including Coriolis, Tales From the Loop, and Symbaroum.
