In this episode of Half Size Me, Heather talks to Kelly about howmaintenance is different from weight lossincreasing carbs helped get the scale moving for Kellysurrounding yourself with positive people is the way to long term successand much more!About Kelly : "I have struggled with my weight my whole life, and of course I still do.  I have always been heavy.  I still remember when my grandmother took my sister and I out to buy Easter dresses when we were in elementary school.  While we were trying them on, I remember her telling one of the ladies working, “I’m here with my two granddaughters…the skinny one’s in there (referring to my sister) and the chubby one’s in there (referring to me).”I remember how hurt I was.  That was the first real memory I have of my perception of myself as being “fat”.It wasn’t until I went to graduate school at the Florida State University, where I met my husband, that I really started to think differently about food and my health.  Our first date, Donnie asked to go “anywhere with a salad”.  I thought that was such a strange request for a man!  I soon found out that he had lost over 100 pounds on the South Beach Diet and kept it off.  So I tried it too.  I lost a little bit, but after we were married along came baby. I gained over 50 pounds throughout my pregnancy, on top of about 20 pounds I gained after a miscarriage. The entire year after my son was born, I was very sedentary.  I ate a lot of whatever I wanted.  Then one day, when he was 15-months-old, my phone rang.  It was my friend/co-worker, Tabitha, asking if I wanted to try the Couch-to-5k program. It was a Sunday afternoon and I was literally sitting on the couch while the baby slept. So I said, “Why not?”  After starting, I was hooked!  I finished the 9-week program and ran my first 5k with my sister.  I started using a food journal, and lost about 50 pounds in those 9 weeks. And then I kept losing.I started riding bikes with my husband.  I kept running. I even started training for my first triathlon. Then, on my birthday, I hit 100 pounds lost.  And although my weight still fluctuates, I've lost a total of 106.6 pounds after a starting weight of 264.4!"To read more about Kelly click here.ResourcesLose ItInstagramCouch to 5kAbout Half Size MeThe Half Size Me Show is a weekly podcast meant to inspire you and motivate you no matter where you are in your weight loss journey.
