RATING
Far Meridian is such a hauntingly lovely exploration of agoraphobia and mystery. Its magic goes largely unexplained, explanations unsought. We hear Peri's challenges and how she faces them, how she seeks and retreats from connection. Sadness can be beautiful too.
As someone who dislikes leaving his home and struggles with talking to people, this show is painfully relevant. Eli Barraza’s voice for Peri is so sweet and soft, and the pacing of the nervous rambling perfectly exemplifies mannerisms of an agoraphobic young woman. The cast of characters Peri has met on her travels so far have all been touchingly human, but the story has only really got interesting with the tenth episode, “Whitecaps.” Peri now has another person with her on this adventure, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops. The sound effects and editing are both great, but I don’t recommend listening to this one in the car or without headphones. Because of Peri’s shyness, there are a lot of instances where the dialogue is so quiet you really have to strain to hear.
I love this show! As someone who is also a bit agoraphobic it's nice to have representation. It's seriously a must listen.
It was a little difficult for me to get into but just a few episodes in I found myself attached to Peri's character. I listened to this at a time when I was stuck at home and following Peri along on her adventures kept me from dissociating. The voice acting is lovely and the relationships cultivated between the characters are endearing.
A stunning score alongside a great performance from Eli Barraza as Peri kept me wanting more after every episode. I actually missed my stop on the underground because I was too engrossed when I was listening!
The Far Meridian essentially states there is beauty all over the world - in the people you met and the places you visit. As a result, the show is beautiful itself. The optimism and sense of exploration is depicted through Peri, the agoraphobic (?) main character whose lighthouse home begins to relocate every 24 hours. It is a fantastic premise as we, the listener, are also transported to a variety of locations and introduced to an array of characters. It's an enormous benefit to the show that it doesn't linger in one place or stick to a select cast, keeping the story fresh and offering so much potential for adventure.
I love this podcast!! It's brilliant, I am "blessed" with quite bad social anxiety and therefore quite awkward outside my own door, Perri has been written so well, I feel the fear that she feels, the little things that bring happiness, can relate to her personality and thew things that go on in her mind. The story (so far) has sucked me in totally, it's intriguing and easy enough to follow. The acting is excellent and heightens the writing, the sound production is subtle but works so very well. I came here from ARS PARADOXICA which is another amazing cast so the oddness of the story was most welcome. I thoroughly recommend The Far Meridian if you like your stories a little off the wall
Definitely interesting story, for some reason I find Peri really easy to relate to
Easily one of my favourite podcasts ever. Eli's voice and storytelling style is heartbreakingly perfect. Everything from the characters themselves to the tag at the end of each episode - "May you always find your way" - builds a charming and painfully sad universe. The way the story weaves forward and back through the episodes may leave the listener wondering how all the threads could possibly be tied up, but this is a podcast about journey, not destination, and it's those loose threads that keep grounded a story that might otherwise float away. This is not a podcast to simply have on in the background. Perfect company for a cup of tea and a rainy day. The next season can't come soon enough!
The Far Meridian is my favorite podcast, and I know that in years to come I'll be coming back to revisit the lighthouse like an old friend. I came across it sometime last year when I first started getting into pods, and it's the first one I recommend the moment I get the chance. The storytelling, characters, pacing, atmosphere, and sound are all easy to love, managing a perfect blend of dreamlike ethereality and the roots of the everyday. To top it all off, every episode just felt *good* to listen to, and I can hardly wait to see where we go next.On a personal note and as a longterm recovering agoraphobic myself, Peri is incredibly relatable. I've never encountered such an accurate media representation of agoraphobia before, let alone one depicting how nonlinear the healing process can be—as it often goes with growth. I feel seen, which is so relieving in a world filled with so many misconceptions about agoraphobia and social anxiety. It's for this reason that The Far Meridian will always hold a special place in my heart no matter the distance of time.
A beautifully produced podcast. Amazing voice acting, intriguing story and heart warming characters. Highly enjoyed the music choice, The Album Leaf was a perfect fit. Would recommend to anybody and everybody!
A beautiful story
The glimpses of different aspects in this world that you get as the lighthouse lands in different places are amazing. I love discovering the world alongside Peri!
