RATING
One of my top favorite podcasts. I just literally yelled it out in recommendation. The flow of the writing and narration is sublime, the characters distinct (and aptly horrific), and while it can take a moment to get your bearings, that seems entirely intentional. After that you know exactly what you're in for, what this is about. This isn't just cosmic horror, it's the horror of every day life, it's corporate horror, it's the horror of existing in a world where the scales have never been balanced and those with the most power put all their effort to keep it that way.I can't get enough of Wireland Ranch. Thank you, Joseph Rutledge, for all of the work it takes to create and share it with us.
I just binged Tides over the last couple of days and I'm losing my mind over the cliffhanger I've found myself on, haha. My wife listened in on a couple of later episodes with me with no prior context and also had no trouble getting invested. The worldbuilding and creature creations are just incredible, and it's so easy to get immersed in the descriptions and imagine this other planet, so familiar at a glance but so distant from anything we know on Earth. There were a couple of places during conversations with multiple characters where the sound was a little difficult to manage (such as one being more quiet than the other), especially if I happened to be listening in the car. I think if I had been wearing headphones, it likely would have been a nonissue, but I usually need to opt for phone or car speakers. Other than that, the sound design was lovely, and it's been very nice getting to experience a podcast with a lot of atmospheric storytelling that doesn't accidentally slip into the pit of 'scenes that would sound good if they also had visual cues, except this is an auditory medium so what is going on'.Thank you all for creating such a fascinating world and sharing its discoveries with us!
The Far Meridian is my favorite podcast, and I know that in years to come I'll be coming back to revisit the lighthouse like an old friend. I came across it sometime last year when I first started getting into pods, and it's the first one I recommend the moment I get the chance. The storytelling, characters, pacing, atmosphere, and sound are all easy to love, managing a perfect blend of dreamlike ethereality and the roots of the everyday. To top it all off, every episode just felt *good* to listen to, and I can hardly wait to see where we go next.On a personal note and as a longterm recovering agoraphobic myself, Peri is incredibly relatable. I've never encountered such an accurate media representation of agoraphobia before, let alone one depicting how nonlinear the healing process can be—as it often goes with growth. I feel seen, which is so relieving in a world filled with so many misconceptions about agoraphobia and social anxiety. It's for this reason that The Far Meridian will always hold a special place in my heart no matter the distance of time.
