Led by The TENG Company's artistic director and award-winning pipa player Dr Samuel Wong, The Pipa Quartet consists of his students and is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. The Quartet aims to introduce chamber music to a wider audience, using one of the most expressive instruments in Chinese music.Since its formation at the start of 2013, the Quartet has already arranged multiple traditional songs for a contemporary audience, and performed various private recitals in Singapore, such as at a benefit for theatre company Wild Rice, the open house of famed director Glen Geoi and the Tea Bone Zen Mind teahouse. The Quartet also performed for the Ngee Ann Polytechnic 50th Anniversary Dinner and Singapore Children's Society Awards Presentation, where Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Chan Chun Sing were in attendance. In August 2013, the Quartet held a Thailand tour, where they performed at Silpakorn University, Patravadi High School (Vic Hua Hin) and the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre. Their upcoming engagements include performances at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, School of the Arts (Singapore) and LASALLE College of the Arts.
