Description

With blood on her hands, the infamous Dolores Roach has fled the recent shocking destruction in Washington Heights and gone into hiding deep under New York City in an abandoned subway tunnel. But she’s not alone underground, and her dark night of the soul is interrupted by an extremist faction of similarly self-exiled tunnel-dwellers whose space she's invaded. Facing re-incarceration back above ground, but pushed to the limits of shame, paranoia, lust, hunger, and depraved entrepreneurialism below it, Dolores is the outcast of the outcasts again - until she takes her survival in the tunnels into her own Magic Hands. Season 2 of The Horror of Dolores Roach is written and directed by Aaron Mark and stars Daphne Rubin-Vega, Donnell Rawlings, and Amy Ryan.

Frantic and fascinating, this show had me questioning whether to laugh at the shock of the unfolding horror or mourn the tragedy of the-monster-who-sincerely-tried-to-do-right.
Fun and entertaining without feeling like it was trying too hard to be cryptic the way a lot of the fiction podcasts are going these days! Interesting characters and good acting! Keep up the good work, Gimlet.
I really enjoyed the first season of this audio drama, the second season... not so much. The Horror of Dolores Roach centers on the life of Dolores after she is released from a sixteen year prison sentence. Initially, she seems interested in finding her boyfriend and being 'above board,' but her intentions warp and she goes from being a drug dealer (her initial arrest) to a cold blooded killer (or hunter as she likes to see herself). I thought the first season was really well done. The voice acting was great and the story itself kept me pulled in. Not only were there the horror and drama elements, but it also spoke on things such as gentrification and the wiping out of cultural areas when new, wealthier people, begin moving in. There are a few adult situations in this one, but they're not too graphic - which I appreciate since I listen to most shows at work (headphones in). The second season still had the same great voice acting and story telling, but this story didn't need to be told - imo. It went from an interesting tale to a weird underground cult led by mentally unstable cannibals, and I felt that really took away from The Horror of Dolores Roach. I think they could of stopped at Season One and wrapped it up with a great story there.
